BOBBEE BEE: HELPING WITH HOMEWORK

homeworksHomework is an important part of school.
You may want to make sure that your child keeps up with it every night.
This will help him/her to do well in school.

Children often start getting homework around the third grade, but the timing may change from school to school.

How do I know what my child has for homework?
Your child will probably have homework every night. Make a calendar or chart so both of you can keep track of tears, papers, and projects.
When and where should my child do his/her homework?
Your child should have a quiet place to work. This means no radios or television. Find a place for child to work. Make sure your child has enough pens and paper and other materials.

You may want to set up a couple hours before or after dinner for your child tod do his/her homework.
If your child finishes early, have him/her write a letter to a relative or watch an educational show on TV.

How can I help my child with his/her homework?

Be there during homework time so your child feels at ease asking your questions.
You can also listen to oral reports and quiz him/her before a test.
Always remember to let your children do their own work and correct their own mistakes.
This is the only way they will learn. Sometimes others can help, perhaps an older brother or sister.
If your child needs special help with his/her homework, here are some ideas:

  • school tutoring programs
  • community agencies
  • local colleges
  • local libraries
You can call any of these places for more information on how they can help your child. Also, some schools have a homework hotline you can call for help.

It is important to always praise and support your children. By taking an interest in their homework, you will be helping to show how important school is. This will give them a positive attitude towards their homework and doing well in school.
